We are proud to announce our successful execution of the complex transportation of a 1,300-ton STS Super-Post-Panamax crane. The crane, 80 meters high with the boom lowered, 24.5 meters wide and 133 meters long, was loaded in Tarragona and unloaded in Vigo. The turnkey project included crane reinforcement, marine fastening, RO-RO loading and unloading with 84 SPMT axles, marine transportation on the MV Zhong Ren 121 and engineering and supervision of all operations.
Detailed engineering ensured that the crane could safely withstand traffic conditions. The RO-RO operations, with a total cargo of 1,900 tons, were completed in two hours thanks to the vessel’s ballast system and Altius’ efficient coordination with the SPMT operator. The crane is now at Termavi, the container terminal operated by Grupo Davila, and will be operational in the coming weeks.
